The City of Toronto is proposing official plan and zoning by-law amendments that would permit laneway suites on lands designated Neighbourhoods within the Toronto and East York district.
The draft amendments, scheduled to be considered by Toronto & East York Community Council on 2 May 2018, contain specific criteria for the laneway suites as well as the lots on which the laneway suites are proposed. These include minimum or maximum criteria for building heights, building lengths and widths, landscaping requirements, setbacks from the principal house on the lot and the lane, and other criteria to mitigate and/or minimize impacts on neighbouring properties.
The City is also preparing a guideline document to be released in the future that will provide further information and guidance on design criteria for laneway suites.
