At its meeting started on 8 July 2014, Toronto City Council voted in favour of establishing a Local Appeal Body to hear appeals of minor variance and consent applications. The appeal body is to be in place to hear all appeals made after 1 September 2015. A motion was also adopted to request the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to amend the Planning Act, the Heritage Act and the City of Toronto Act to abolish the OMB’s jurisdiction over the City’s Official Plan Amendment, Zoning By-law Amendment, Site Plan, Subdivision and Condominium Plan Approvals and Community Improvement Plans and appeals under the Heritage Act.
