Province Makes Regulations Temporarily Suspending Noise By-laws Provisions (Construction and Goods Deliveries)

Apr 13, 2020

On 8 April 2020, the Premier and the Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development announced the making of O. Reg. 130/20 (under the City of Toronto Act) and O. Reg 131/20 (under the Municipal Act), which will temporarily suspend construction related municipal noise by-laws, province-wide. These regulations will permit, for 18 months from the date of the making of the regulations, around the clock noise related to construction projects associated with the health-care sector, while extending the hours for permitted noise from any other construction between 6am and 10pm.

O. Reg. 130/20, which is specific to the City of Toronto is available here; while O. Reg. 131/20, under the Municipal Act, is available here.

These regulations follow previous regulations made on 19 March 2020, O. Reg. 70/20 (under the Municipal Act) and O. Reg. 71/20 (under the City of Toronto Act), which temporarily suspended noise by-laws to allow goods deliveries 24 hours a day.

O. Reg. 71/20, which is specific to the City of Toronto is available here; while O. Reg. 70/20, under the Municipal Act, is available here.
